Report A Missing Person
MISSING PERSONS
The Delta Police Department is committed to ensuring that reports of missing persons are addressed in a timely and sensitive manner.
There is no waiting period to report a missing person. The investigation will begin as soon as the report is received, and anyone can make a missing person report (you do not have to be a family member of the missing person).
How to Report a Missing Person:
If you believe someone is missing who may be in imminent danger or subject to vulnerable circumstances (e.g., a child, elderly, emotionally distressed, likely to cause harm to themselves or others, requires medical treatment, under the influence of substances), please call 9-1-1 immediately.
If you believe the missing person is not in immediate danger or subject to vulnerable circumstances, please call the Delta Police non-emergency line at 604-946-4411.
What to Expect When Reporting a Missing Person:
Please be prepared to provide as much information as possible to assist officers in locating the missing person. Examples of information that may be requested include:
- if the missing person may be in imminent danger or subject to vulnerable circumstances (e.g., a child, elderly, emotionally distressed, likely to cause harm to themselves or others, requires medical treatment, under the influence of substances);
- a physical description of the missing person (e.g., gender, age, height, weight, race, eye colour, hair colour, tattoos/scars, clothing the person was last seen wearing);
- a photograph of the missing person;
- details of the missing person’s last known whereabouts and where they live, work, or often spend time;
- a description of a vehicle they may be driving or that may be involved (e.g., make/model, colour, license plate number);
- names of family members, friends, or other individuals who may be able to provide further information as to the whereabouts of the missing person;
- circumstances or details surrounding the missing person’s disappearance; and
- a personal item that belongs to the missing person.
You do not need all the above information in order to report a missing person; any details you are able to provide will assist the police in their investigation.
You will be provided with a file number and the name and contact information of an investigating officer, who will provide you with updates and who you may contact at any time throughout the investigation. If the investigating officer is not immediately available and you wish to provide information of an urgent nature, please call 9-1-1.
Please immediately advise the investigating officer directly or the Delta Police, as soon as possible, if the missing person contacts you or is located, or you obtain new information that could assist in the investigation.
