TYPES OF POLICE INFORMATION CHECKS
Delta Police Department offers two types of Police Information Checks.
1. Police Information Checks without Vulnerable Sector Screening (PIC)
This check is intended for applicants who are seeking employment and/or volunteer opportunities with agencies who require a police information check.
This check is for applications who will NOT be in a position of authority or trust relative to vulnerable persons.
2. Police Information Checks with Vulnerable Sector Screening (PIC)
This check is restricted to applicants seeking employment and/or volunteer positions in a position of authority or trust relative to vulnerable persons. This check is more in-depth and can include checks for any convictions, outstanding warrants, charges, judicial orders, non-convictions and adverse police contact information available from local police agency’s records management system and other systems/records where authorized. This check will include sexual offence convictions for which the individual has received a record suspension, subject to authorization by the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
Please click here for further information about vulnerable sector screening.
NOTE: Individuals requesting PIC VS may also be requested to come in for fingerprinting. Please refer to point 3 on the following webpage to learn more about this requirement: Vulnerable Sector Fingerprinting FEES
Police Information Checks with or without vulnerable sector screening are processed for a $75 fee. Please click here to open the DPD PIC Fee Schedule with further details.
PIC STANDARDS
Police agencies across B.C., including municipal departments and the RCMP, follow the BC Police Information Check Guidelines to ensure that all PICs are processed with a consistent standard. Please click here to obtain further information about the requirements and processes for each type of check.
For detailed information on what is released on a Police Information Check, please refer to the following documents:
By performing a PIC, the Delta Police Department is in no way making a recommendation as to the suitability of the applicant for a position, nor should an agency consider the existence of police information to mean a compulsory disqualification of the individual. It is important to note that information released on Police Information Checks in some instances is based upon information provided by the applicant. A police agency cannot guarantee it will identify all information pertaining to the individual.
PROCESSING TIMES
PIC processing times can range from 2 business days to 4 weeks. While we make every effort to complete PICs in a timely matter, we are unable to provide an exact processing time, as processing times vary depending on whether any follow up needs to be conducted, files need to be reviewed, fingerprinting needs to be completed, the volume of PICs received, as well as if the applicant has lived elsewhere in Canada in the past 5 years. Fingerprinting Requirement: There may be additional delays for vulnerable sector applications due to fingerprinting requirements. Click here for further details about fingerprinting requirements for vulnerable sector screening.
