Shots fired in North Delta, arrest made

Monday, Aug 9, 2021
News Release

File: 21-18401

Delta Police responded to a report of shots fired on Aug. 7 around 11:30 pm in the 7900 block of 114A Street. Fortunately there were no injuries as a result of this incident, though a parked, unoccupied vehicle was damaged.

Police are asking for witnesses or those who may have dashcam or additional information to come forward.

“Our frontline patrol officers and Violence Suppression Team members responded immediately to the report of shots fired,” says Cris Leykauf, spokesperson for Delta Police. She notes the Delta dog unit also assisted in the search for evidence.

Delta Police are working closely with Surrey RCMP regarding this matter, as Surrey had three separate reports of shots fired within the same time frame, believed to be connected. Those occurred in the 6900 block of 127A Street, 12900 block of 73A Avenue and 6600 block of 132 Street in Surrey.

Police believe all four incidents are linked to one suspect, a 28-year-old man who was arrested by Surrey RCMP, just past midnight on August 8 in Surrey.

“Our investigation in Delta is still in the early stages,” says Leykauf. “However, it’s not believed to be linked to the current Lower Mainland Gang conflict.” At this time it is not known whether the Delta shooting was targeted.

Anyone with further information about shots fired incident in Delta is asked to contact police at 604-946-4411. If they wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca
