Update to Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Thursday, Oct 1, 2026
News Release

Delta, BC – Delta Police continue to investigate the tragic motor vehicle collision that occurred in the parking lot of Tsawwassen Mills on September 30, 2026.

As previously reported, a vehicle struck four pedestrians shortly after 10:25 a.m. Tragically, two of the victims, both Elders of Tsawwassen First Nation, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other individuals were airlifted to hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The identities of the deceased are not being released at this time as investigators continue to work with the BC Coroners Service and support the families affected by this tragedy.

The driver received medical attention, was interviewed by investigators and was later released from hospital. The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been sworn at this time.

At this time, there is no information to suggest the collision was intentional. Investigators continue to examine whether a medical emergency experienced by the driver before the collision may have been a contributing factor.

Since the collision, investigators have gathered witness statements, reviewed available surveillance and other video evidence, and examined information related to the incident. The investigation remains active and is being led by the Delta Police Traffic Collision Team.

While the collision was not related to the Truth and Reconciliation Walk taking place elsewhere on the property, the area where the collision occurred was scheduled to host a House Post unveiling following the conclusion of the walk. Although the unveiling had not yet begun, some individuals were present in the area preparing for the ceremony. At this stage of the investigation, there is no information to suggest any connection between the collision and the planned event.

“We recognize the profound impact this incident has had on the victims, their families, witnesses, first responders and our entire community,” said Staff Sergeant Mike Whiteley, Media Relations Officer for Delta Police. “Our investigators are working diligently to determine exactly what occurred and to conduct a thorough investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding this collision.”

Delta Police acknowledge the actions of witnesses, BC Emergency Health Services personnel, firefighters and police officers who responded and provided assistance in extremely difficult circumstances.

Investigators continue to seek information that may assist the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision, observed the involved vehicle on the Tsawwassen Mills property before the collision, or has cellphone, surveillance or dash-camera footage from the area and has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact Delta Police at 604-946-4444 and reference file 26-18401.
