Joint Operation Tackles Shoplifting at Guildford Town Centre

Friday, Oct 25, 2024
News Release

On October 21, 2024, the Delta Police Department (DPD) Patrol Support Team (PST) partnered with Surrey RCMP’s North Community Response Unit (CRU) to conduct a targeted operation aimed at reducing shoplifting at the Guildford Town Centre. This joint one-day initiative resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals for various theft-related offences.

The operation, coordinated in collaboration with mall security and nine participating retail stores, including loss prevention specialists from the U.S., was highly effective in curbing criminal activity. Among the charges recommended were:

●    17 counts of Theft Under $5,000
●    Possession of Identity Documents
●    Failure to Comply with Probation

Police also executed three arrest warrants, leading to one individual being held in custody for breaching probation conditions. Officers seized three weapons, including knives and pepper spray, and recovered more than $6,500 in stolen merchandise.

A/Insp. James Sandberg stated, “The success of this anti-shoplifting project demonstrates the value of the partnership between the Delta Police Department and our Surrey policing partners.  Together, we increase our effectiveness to reduce crimes in our communities."

This successful operation highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, retailers, and security personnel in addressing shoplifting and ensuring the safety of the community.
