Fraud Alert: Spoofing calls from DPD Non-Emergency number
Delta, BC – The Delta Police Department (DPD) is warning the public about an ongoing phone scam in which fraudsters are spoofing the DPD’s Non-Emergency number (604-946-4411) to deceive victims.
This week, the DPD has been made aware of approximately 10 reports from residents contacted by fraudsters claiming to represent the DPD, using fake names and badge numbers. Victims are told that their phone number is linked to a police investigation and are then asked to provide personal information.
These fraudulent calls are “spoofed” to appear to come from 604-946-4411, the DPD’s Non-Emergency number, but they are not legitimate. This type of scam has been reported across Canada.
If you suspect a call may be fraudulent:
- Hang up and do not provide any personal or financial details such as your name, address, credit card, or bank.
- If you are uncertain about the call’s legitimacy, do not call back using numbers or links provided by the caller. Instead, independently contact the DPD’s Non-Emergency line at 604-946-4411 to verify the information.
The DPD is actively monitoring the situation and would like to remind the public to stay vigilant against phone scams.
