DPD seizes drugs and weapons from problem residence

Monday, Dec 20, 2021
News Release

File 21-27742

A search warrant executed Dec. 9 at a problem residence in North Delta yielded weapons, drugs and suspected stolen ID. Police arrested five individuals, including one for obstruction.

Earlier this year the public identified a residence in North Delta to police, with concerns that drug trafficking was taking place. The Delta Police Patrol Support Team obtained a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and executed it in September. At that time police seized small amounts of a variety of drugs, as well as packaging materials, scales and cash. One individual was arrested and the investigation continued.

In November 2021 police learned that drug trafficking appeared to have resumed at the residence, and officers with the Drug Investigative Support Team began gathering evidence that lead to the application for a search warrant.

On December 9 officers executed that warrant, with the assistance of the Lower Mainland integrated Emergency Response Team and DPD Specialty Dog Unit. Police located five individuals in the residence, one of whom was found to have Canada-wide warrants from multiple jurisdictions for break and enter, disguise with intent and mischief. That individual was transported to cells.

Police found a quantity of suspected drugs consistent with street level trafficking, cash, suspected drug packaging and trafficking related materials as well as a Glock handgun, ammunition, replica handguns, crossbows and brass knuckles. Police also seized a variety of stolen credit cards and ID cards.

“Officers referred the residence to City of Delta Bylaws for consideration of actions that might be taken to prevent it being used further for illegal purposes,” says Cris Leykauf, spokesperson for Delta Police. ”While our officers were on scene a number of neighbours actually stopped to thank them for taking enforcement, as they had been frustrated by the criminal activity in the area.”

The investigation is continuing.
