Delta Police Recognizes Acts of Service, Bravery, and Community Impact at Annual Awards Ceremony

News Release

The Delta Police Department (DPD) held its annual Awards Ceremony on October 3rd, 2024, honouring the outstanding contributions of officers, police staff, volunteers, and community members who have gone above and beyond in their service to community safety and well-being.

“The awards ceremony was a celebration of excellence—the kind of excellence that defines the DPD,” says Acting Chief Constable Guy Leeson. “Whether in moments of crisis or through their ongoing dedication, the actions and contributions of all award recipients represented the very best of policing and community safety. And while we honoured heroic and exceptional actions during the ceremony, it’s also important to recognize the work our team does every day—on every shift and every call—is just as important for our community’s safety and well-being.”

Four community members were recognized with the Outstanding Citizen Award for their heroic acts, including life-saving interventions and extraordinary bravery.

Cst. Meghan Wellis was awarded the Cst. Sheila Rothwell Patrol Officer of the Year Award, which is named in honour of Retired Constable Sheila Rothwell, and recognizes an officer selected by their peers for their sound judgment, leadership, and teamwork in the Patrol Services Section.

Cst. Jeffrey Miller was awarded the Community Engagement Award, presented by Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) Chief Laura Cassidy and A/Chief Guy Leeson for strengthening the relationship between the DPD and the TFN community.

In total, 19 team members received the Superintendent and Deputy Chief Constable Commendations for various accomplishments, including locating and arresting an individual involved in a shooting and investigation of deepfake technology.

The Ceremony’s highest honour, the Chief Constable Commendation, was awarded to Cst. Brandon Orser for his extraordinary efforts in supporting an individual in a mental health crisis on the Alex Fraser Bridge for over eight hours and saving their life.
