Delta Police Launch New Public Crime Dashboards
DELTA, B.C. – The Delta Police Department (DPD) is making it easier for residents and businesses to access and understand local crime information with the launch of two new interactive public crime dashboards. The dashboards allow users to explore selected reported crimes in their neighbourhoods, compare trends over time and use this information alongside DPD’s crime prevention advice. The launch supports DPD’s 2026 Annual Business Plan and its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan commitment to community safety, transparency and public trust. The two dashboards offer different ways to explore crime information: Quarterly Crime Statistics Dashboard: Providesquarterly and year-to-date comparisons of reported crime by offence type and policing district, helping users track trends over time. Updated quarterly. Crime Mapping Dashboard: Shows selected reported crimes across Delta over the previous 12 months. Users can filter results by date, district and offence type. Updated daily. DPD uses crime data to identify emerging trends, guide policing resources and support targeted prevention efforts. These dashboards give the community direct access to selected information and complement the advice available through DPD’s communication channels and District Community Police Offices. Privacy protections are built into both dashboards. Crime locations are generalized, and no identifying personal information or exact addresses are published. Sexual offences and intimate partner violence are excluded from geographic mapping in both dashboards. Cybercrime is also excluded from mapping because the associated location may not reflect where the crime occurred. The dashboards count offences differently. A police file may involve more than one offence: the quarterly dashboard includes all monitored offences associated with a file, while the mapping dashboard displays only the primary offence. As a result, geographic displays may differ. DPD’s website explains the data and its limitations. The dashboards show selected crimes reported to police and do not provide a complete picture of all crime in the community. They complement DPD’s quarterly crime statistics reports, which remain available through the Delta Police Board’s public meeting materials.
