Five days before her wedding, RCMP Constable Sande Higgins was set to fly from her Northern posting in Pukatawagan, Manitoba to Winnipeg. On take-off, the plane crashed injuring most passengers and leaving one passenger deceased. ⁠

Sande heroically helped the surviving passengers escape the plane, but the toll it took on Sande did not show itself for years to come.⁠
