School Liaison Section (SLO)

The School Liaison Program is designed to build a strong relationship between police and youth to influence youth in becoming responsible members of the community.
The five school liaison officers serve the 18,000 youth in 36 schools in the Delta school community.
All the classes from kindergarten to grade 12 will be visited by their school liaison officer at least once each school year for a formal presentation on a grade-appropriate topic.

The school liaison officers also work in partnership with the school administrators and outside agencies including ICBC, Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and Delta Youth Services to provide presentations to both youth and their parents. Presentations that have been provided to the community in recent years include forums on drinking and driving, drugs, bullying and youth violence »see presentations.
By maintaining a balance of education and enforcement initiatives the school liaison officers continue to provide Delta students with a safe learning environment and the tools for success in life.

- Student Police Academy
This is a unique opportunity for Grade 11 and 12 students to learn about a career in law enforcement through this challenging learning experience. The program is modeled on the training that police recruits undergo at the Justice Institute, involving scenario-based simulations.
Students apply to the program in the Spring and go through a selection process where approximately 20 students are entered into the summer program.
