Delta Police reserve constables are volunteers who participate in community policing and crime prevention activities while under the supervision of a police officer. The reserve constable must commit to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours each month. The hours may include, but are not limited to training, ride-a-longs with patrol members and participation in community events and programs. There is also a mandatory monthly meeting. The Delta Police recognizes that a number of applicants interested in the Reserve Program are also interested in obtaining employment as regular members. However, Delta Police also encourage civic-minded citizens who are solely interested in serving their community in a unique and rewarding manner, to also consider the Reserve Program. Training
Instructional training will consist of a minimum of 90 hours of classroom instruction and practical training. Classes are generally held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 1900-2200 hours, for a duration of four months. There are also some all-day weekend sessions that take place for use of force training. Mid-term and final examinations will be administered by the Justice Institute of British Columbia. The reserve constable training will be instructed locally in accordance with provincial policy guidelines mandated by the Ministry of the Attorney General's Police Services Division.
