Community Safety and Crime Prevention
As a community based police department we are committed to working with the citizens of Delta to maintain a safe and secure community.
Community based policing encompasses four primary components:
| Partnership: | The combined strengths of the community, volunteers and police are brought together to solve problems |
| Ownership: | The police and community take ownership of community issues and identified problem areas |
| Customer Service: | By providing excellent service the police receive the support of the community |
| Problem Solving: | By using effective problem solving, service calls trivial in nature will be eliminated allowing police to concentrate on investigating serious crimes |
By employing these components we can maintain a safe community.
Crime prevention is community based policing in action. The Delta Police Department works with organizations and agencies to bring information to the citizens so they can take proactive steps to prevent crime and reduce the potential of becoming a victim of crime. The Delta Police Department also makes available a variety of crime prevention programs for the benefit of citizens.
We encourage the citizens of Delta to become familiar with the many programs offered and information available on community safety and crime prevention.
Community safety is everyone's responsibility
The list of crime prevention topics is not an exhaustive compilation. The Delta Police Department will continuously provide information on the many current and active crime issues.
In addition to coordinating crime prevention programs the Community Relations officer acts as the Liquor Liaison officer. This responsibility includes reviewing Special Occasion Licence applications for public events that have been submitted for approval and acting as a liaison between police and the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
